Kendaraya has its roots in the knowledge, methods and experience of Mr. Chandrasiri Bandara, one of Sri Lanka's best-known astrologers of his generation.

For decades, Chandrasiri Bandara brought astrology closer to ordinary Sri Lankans through a distinctive way of interpreting and explaining the Kendaraya. His ability to take complex astrological principles and communicate them in language people could understand earned him a large following across the country and made him a familiar name among people interested in Sri Lankan astrology.

But his interest was not limited to the traditional consultation room.

Long before WhatsApp became part of everyday life, Chandrasiri Bandara was already exploring how technology could make personalised astrology easier to access.

In 2011, he worked with Etisalat Sri Lanka on a pioneering mobile horoscope service that allowed people to submit their date, time and place of birth and receive personalised astrological guidance through their mobile phone.

The principle was remarkably similar to the idea behind Kendaraya today: take the knowledge it traditionally contained and use technology to make it available wherever the person happens to be.

His astrological knowledge, interpretive methods and years of practical experience became part of the foundation from which Kendaraya was developed.

Today, Kendaraya carries that work forward using modern astronomical calculation, structured astrology engines and WhatsApp — while preserving the Sri Lankan character of the astrology that Chandrasiri Bandara spent his life practising and communicating.

A legacy carried forward

Chandrasiri Bandara passed away on 22 April 2024, aged 63.

Kendaraya is therefore not presented as a replacement for him, nor do we claim that software can reproduce the judgement and experience of a lifetime spent practising astrology.

Instead, Kendaraya is our way of preserving, structuring and continuing the knowledge that helped inspire it.

His experience gave Kendaraya its foundation.
Technology allows that knowledge to continue reaching people.
